ePortfolios in Professional Development

Wednesday 15th February 2017

Wednesday 15th February 2017Wednesday 15th February 2017

This conversational event is for people involved in supporting or promoting the use of eportfolios in professional development, professional standards and recognition, or for performance management, promotion and tenure. We are looking specifically at how these areas are supported within the context of staff development.

The event is chaired by Sarah Chesney who led the innovative Jisc-funded project Flourish at the University of Cumbria. Sarah has been working with electronic portfolios in this space for more than 10 years. Juliet Hinrichsen (Sheffield Hallam University) and Lisa Hayes (University of Bedfordshire) have worked alongside Shane Sutherland (PebblePad) to design a programme which will explore the varied ways in which portfolios can be used to support staff and faculty development. The programme provides ample opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities of wide-scale portfolio use within an institution.

This event is generously hosted by Sheffield Hallam University and sponsored by PebblePad, allowing us to keep the costs of attendance to £30.

Location: Sheffield Hallam University, Sheaf Building, Sheaf Street, Sheffield Link:

Online webinar - Reimagining Portfolios

Thursday 16th February 2017

Thursday 16th February 2017Thursday 16th February 2017

Whilst we are constantly surprised and delighted at the innovative uses of PebblePad we know that much of this innovative use is to solve a very particular institutional problem with each individual institution often unaware of the fascinating uses of PebblePad happening elsewhere.

In this 50 minute webinar, Cofounder and Commander in Chief, Shane Sutherland, will draw upon a wide, international range of diverse examples to inspire, enthuse and otherwise encourage you to rethink the ways in which you can use PebblePad. Shane will showcase how portfolio practice is maturing and is increasingly being used to support the full student lifecycle i.e. preparation; application; orientation; core curricular; work-based learning; extra-curricular; research; HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report, UK); transition to employment; and revalidation.

Online webinar - Programmatic assessment and eportfolios

Thursday 16th March 2017

Thursday 16th March 2017Thursday 16th March 2017

The webinar will outline the design, development and implementation process of a pedagogically sound and technologically workable and sustainable solution to programmatic assessment using an eportfolio tool across an entire Faculty in an Australian University.

Programmatic Assessment is often part of a continuum which begins with the development of specific capabilities for graduates, and then aligns the capabilities with learning activities and measurable assessment opportunities across a program of study. The use of an electronic portfolio (eportfolio) tool, the provision of longitudinal tutorial support and credible feedback are often the key design challenges for programmatic assessment and they will be key points of discussion in this presentation.

Presenter(s):
Panos Vlachopoulos, Associate Dean Quality & Standards, Faculty of Arts and Sherrie Love, Senior Learning Designer, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.

SEDA Spring Teaching Learning and Assessment Conference 2017

Thursday 11th May 2017 - Friday 12th May 2017

Thursday 11th May 2017Friday 12th May 2017

Higher and Further Education are under pressure to both deliver and demonstrate teaching excellence. This pressure has probably never been as intense as it is today and is likely to increase as we experience new quality regimes such as the TEF and our students become more demanding in terms of ‘value for money’. This conference will examine how HE and FE can respond to this new environment and offer both conceptual/theoretical analysis and practical techniques to help us move forward.

Online webinar - The IMPACT Project: Authentic Learning by Design

Tuesday 16th May 2017

Tuesday 16th May 2017Tuesday 16th May 2017

The IMPACT (Interdisciplinary, Meaningful/Mentorship, Practice , Applied, Collaborative/Community Transformative) Project is a community-engaged interdisciplinary authentic learning experience for first-year engineering students, undergraduate biology students, and graduate-level occupational therapy students. Together, the students, staff, and faculty from these three communities work with local community members to identify a problem area, collaboratively design devices, and ultimately delivering a useable solution to one or more users. This project has been ongoing since 2012.

The IMPACT Project is built around a freshmen engineering course on engineering practice and the profession. Using a new problem each year, the approximately 1000 engineering students are tasked with designing a device for the user(s). The 200–300 biology and occupational therapy students volunteer as design reviewers. At the end of the project, a public showcase and competition results in a final best design and prototype which is handed to the user(s).

Learning in the IMPACT Project is facilitated with the use of several pieces of digital technology, including electronic learning portfolios. This webinar will describe the design of the IMPACT Project and the strategies employed to organize the disparate groups and schedules, methods used to capture students work, and how student collaboration across multiple disciplines was achieved and facilitated by digital technology.

Online webinar - Using technology to support reflection on individual learning journeys

Wednesday 30th August 2017Meet Us Here

Wednesday 30th August 2017Wednesday 30th August 2017

Students from Canterbury Christ Church University will lead this webinar and use it to showcase how a particular assignment used PebblePad workbooks and assets to improve the educational experience. The webinar will highlight that it is not the technology per se that is important, but rather how the technology is used to improve pedagogy and teaching practice. Sarah Tutton, the lead student presenter, has just won the CCCU PGCE prize for creativity on the PGCE. This is the top student prize and is given to the student who has shown and demonstrated by publication the greatest creativity in their teaching practice. We are absolutely delighted to have Sarah presenting her work.
