We’re incredibly excited to welcome yet another new Australian partner university into the PebblePad fold. The University of New England, located in regional New South Wales, has been a leader in providing distance education to students throughout Australia and the world for over 60 years. With the large majority of UNE students studying fully online and often part-time over a number of years, the adoption of PebblePad is a means to support students and to bring together their learning and map their development in a single space. Indeed, UNE’s latest strategic plan identifies one of its core goals as crafting, adapting and supporting personalised learning journeys, a goal that PebblePad – the Learning Journey Platform - is uniquely qualified to support.
Supporting the entire journey
The vision for PebblePad use at UNE encompasses implementation at whole program (or course) level to enable students to develop portfolios over a period of time, with the idea being for students to tie together their learning across the entire course rather than just touching the eportfolio in single units of study. Initially, the first implementation projects will include the disciplines of Nursing, Teacher Education - who intend to use it in a number of their degrees as well as for Teacher Performance Assessment and placements - and Psychology. Martina Linnemann, Manager, Learning Environments says, “PebblePad will equip our students, especially in areas such as Education and Nursing, with a portfolio of evidence that they can take into the workplace with them and continue to grow.” The ability for graduating students to create alumni accounts and take all of their assets – as well as continued use of PebblePad – into their careers as emerging professionals was a key consideration for UNE.
Academic staff will also be supported to create their own Professional Development portfolios to showcase their work as well as for accreditation and assessment. Using PebblePad for staff PD will give academic staff the same opportunities to showcase their own learning and development, and also allow them to work with a tool that they might then use in teaching.
