Raising A Glass To The New Year: PebblePad Prepares For A Sparkling 2022

JANUARY 11th 2022· by Jodie Young

With a shiny new calendar up on the wall, it’s time to look ahead to what the coming months promise, to plan and predict, and to resolve for new habits and outcomes. One thing the last two incredibly challenging years have shown us is that in the world of higher education there is good reason for optimism – the resilience, the capacity for rapid yet meaningful change, and the concern for keeping student learning and wellbeing foremost in mind and practice have been nothing short of remarkable. The stories of how well university educators have managed the challenges of the last two years and have embraced opportunities for lasting change have been inspiring and, in cases where PebblePad has been a pivotal part of that transformation, somewhat humbling. We’ve always believed strongly in PebblePad’s potential to be a gamechanger and over the years have seen some exceptional examples how our customers use it to support a raft of fabulous initiatives, but to see so much innovation at scale, as a response to Covid19 disruption, has been incredibly satisfying. We’re moving into 2022 with a sense of excitement and anticipation, underpinned by the continued growth of our team and continued commitment to making our platform better than ever.

The PebblePad Year of …

2022 has been designated the United Nations International Year of Glass. There’s a nice bit of synergy for us at PebblePad here. Glass allows light, vision and clarity and we’re poised to exploit those characteristics in the company as we move into another exciting year of growth and development. Glass also forms the basis of windows, offering glimpses into other spaces and worlds. Here at PebblePad, we know the power of visibility. After all, one of the things PebblePad does best is opening a window into student learning. It allows them to record, reflect on and share their development and achievement, and to give others glimpses or a comprehensive view, whether for feedback, accreditation or application – or even just sharing and connection. At the heart of this is the learner story - we’ve always been the platform for supporting the entire learning journey, and for helping learners make sense of each step along the way to be able to articulate a narrative of professional and personal growth. These stories are the ‘windows’ into our learner’s worlds. And so, following UN fashion, we’ve decided to designate our own year of observance as the PebblePad Year of Stories.

In nominating 2022 as the International Year of Glass, the United Nations acknowledges the role of glass as a vital technology - important, versatile and transformative.  When it comes to supporting the higher education aims of student-centred learning and authentic assessment, and helping learners leverage those practices to become rounded and future-ready graduates who can readily articulate their skills and development, we stand proudly as the eportfolio platform to support the entire learning journey. Like glass, our technology provides a window - into student learning progress and for making visible their stories of success.

Trailblazing successes – stories from the coalface

PebblePad is blessed to have a very committed, innovative and generous global community of practitioners who are happy to share their experiences and examples of practice. The breadth and diversity of the practice described in our case studies is testament to the ingenuity of our users and they cover examples of the use of PebblePad to support, guide and develop students at all stages of the learning journey in institutions across the globe. To make these stories more accessible, we’re incredibly proud to unveil our new Case Studies page on the PebblePad website. It’s a treasure trove of brilliant examples of how PebblePad is being used to meet teaching, learning and assessment ambitions, or to solve tricky logistical problems of supporting particular initiatives at scale. We’ll be adding to the store of great stories throughout the year – and welcome suggestions from the community so if you’d like us to feature your PebblePad tale, please do get in touch.

The PebblePad story – chapter 18 and counting

Since 2004, PebblePad has been sharing our unique blend of technology and educational expertise to help universities across the globe guide and develop future-ready graduates and we’re showing no signs of slowing down. 2021 was year that saw our business growth begin to really take off, and with the first half of January not done yet we’ve welcomed another eight new talented colleagues into the business and are currently on the search for more. Exciting times ahead, and we’ll be featuring a blog post outlining some of our plans shortly after our company kick-off at the end of the month. One thing we are certain of: we’ll have plenty of company and team stories to share throughout coming year.

It’s been a big couple of years for PebblePad – the company, the platform, and our wonderful community of trailblazing practitioners, and we’re looking forward to a bright and busy one this year. We wish the wonderful PebblePad and wider Higher Ed community a very happy 2022 - here is to another year of trailblazing pedagogical and pebblegogical success as we continue to transform the higher education learning journey.
