The achievement is manifest. It concerns the bringing together and managing a group of gifted individuals who have combined to create a high-performing team. It concerns the design and realisation of an ePortfolio system which is capable of servicing the needs of diverse learners studying diverse students. It concerns creating a system which is not preoccupied with 'products' but which supports and facilitates the 'process' of learning. Finally, it concerns perhaps the hardest challenge of all which is steering a path through the turbulent waters of vested interest in the University.
What is the greatest achievement? That is yet to be realised but it will be shaped by the response of the users of PACE and their perceptions of the value it adds to their learning.

Satisfaction on how much we have achieved - especially given the short time frame in which we have operated, but frustrated because we know how much better the system will be over time. We are know that there are many little errors but these are easily fixed: it is the bigger ambitions we have that are thwarted by time.
For example, we know that we'd like to reward users for regular use of their PACE. We'd like to use some gaming metaphors to present points for prizes; fish for your pond; trees for your wooded snowscape of shooting stars for your cosmic skin.
Then, there's the teacher interface and all of the entries for My Conferences, My Development, My Publications and My Appraisal.
Oh, it's going to be an exciting 2005!

It was also reassuring to be told that the VARK was simply a preference. In college, on my access course, we did a Honey and Mumford test and I came out as a Theorist. This always troubled me slightly because I felt that I was quite reflective. A system which allows users to record any abilities, events or plans which are personally significant; which allows these records to be linked, augmented or evidenced by other data sources, and which promotes reflection on these entries. It allows the user to integrate institutional data with personal data, recorded and reviewed over time, which has been enriched by commentary and feedback from the recipients of shared assets. It is a system with tools for aggregating assets in multiple forms; for telling myriad stories to diverse audiences and which provides absolute user-control over what is shared, with whom, for what purpose and for how long. It is a personal repository; a personal diary; a feedback and collaboration system; and a digital theatre - where the audience is by invitation only.

This definition has grown from our ePortfolio work - though it is perhaps more accurate to suggest that our ePortfolio system has grown out of our conception!
