Reflection
The week five session involved meeting for the first and only time my virtual group. My first impressions were good because I had been placed in a culturally diverse team, which will hopefully prove beneficial when constructing the assignment. Although one of my group members was not present, she had informed one of the groups that she could not make it due to illness. I was encouraged my group member’s inputs in this session which I hope if are continued virtually we could work well together. I was a little worried because they discussed with me their difficulties on using the communication media required to complete the assignments and as my own knowledge and competence was not yet comprehensive.
We discussed the task which was set in the seminar and I volunteered to put an initial draft of the group rules on Wiki for them to comment on and edit shaping into shared group rules.
In this session we were also introduced into the theory surrounding team working. The seminar leader pointed something out which I had noticed before; this was the fact that Brookes uses the terminology ‘group’ whereas employers recognise ‘team’. I am aware of this difference however do not understand why Brookes use this terminology when in business it is different. I particularly thought Mann’s (1998) definition of a team, as a number of individuals who rely on each other to fulfil a shared purpose, very thorough.
Plan
• Improve my competency on the communication media I am required to use (especially Wiki)
• Contact the member of my group who could not make it to introduce myself
• Research into Hofstede because his theories on High and Low context seem relavant to our assignment

Following the week five session I felt because one of my Virtual group members was ill and not able to attend the session, therefore I did not meet her I thought I should introduce myself virtually. I did this through the Brookes Virtual discussion and also made a comment in response to one she had put on Wiki. I however never got a response from her and since then due to no communication with her I recommended issuing a white card to her, to which Debbie informed me instead she would remove her from our group.
I also researched further into the theory of High and Low context cultures which I then incorporated into the report for my Virtual assignment by reading the following article:
